Summary:
The database administrator will have a strong aptitude for technology, maintain a professional demeanor, and possess excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership to technical and business associates and mentor team peers.
- Recommend RDBMS and infrastructure designs based on business requirements, technology roadmap, product functionality, knowledge of interfacing technology and clear understanding of customer expectations. Provide highly analytical consulting and leadership in identifying and implementing new uses of database and middleware technologies to assist business units in meeting strategic objectives.
- Identify new technology that increases technical support efficiency and effectiveness. Prepare and review assessments to include required tasks, estimated time frames and effort for small to large size, risk and scope of the project.
- Develop and execute plans for database implementation and upgrades, data source integration, and data archiving, and recovery methods.
- Assist with coordination of annual disaster recovery exercises and remediate issues.
- Complete and oversee basic to complex database analysis, design, and development efforts. Provide functional feedback to internal application owners and technology stakeholders on current or proposed development initiatives to extent it supports the defined business needs.
- Maintain a strong functional understanding of supported applications. Maintain a current understanding of the business environment supported to provide expert guidance for technical, business, and operational impacts associated with a project or production problem.
- Work with internal and external application and technology stakeholders to review status of initiatives, compliance changes, vendor requests, and system maintenance changes.
- Ensure identification and resolution of issues and concerns related to enhancement requests, application reliability changes and/or production problem resolution.
- Assist others on project execution and production support for all applications and project sizes.
- Evaluate and understand complex inter-relationships among the databases, interfacing applications, and operating systems. Keep systems running at optimal performance.
- Prepare thorough and clear technical specifications, and update systems, standards, and RDBMS process documentation.
- Identify performance and effectiveness enhancement opportunities and recommend new policies and procedures that support improvement. Monitor and maintain system and database performance.
- Understand, execute, and safeguard to the Rack Room’s standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the internal IT security team.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
- Participate in on-call and after hours support as needed.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or technical work experience equivalent.
- Five years or more of database development and support, and SQL scripting.
- Specific knowledge of Relational Database Management Systems on UNIX & LINUX based platforms. (Oracle is preferred - Microsoft SQL Server, Snowflake cloud, or MySQL are a plus).
- Technical training in Relational Database Management Systems.
- Cloud development and architecture is a plus. (Google, Oracle, Azure).
- Experience in Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports, APEX, Oracle Weblogic, Apache Tomcat, RMAN, and Enterprise Manager is highly sought for support and maintenance.
Physical Demands:
This position is primarily sedentary. Applicants, with or without accommodations, must be able to sit for extended periods, as well as occasionally stand and walk. The role requires reaching, grasping, and possessing fine motor skills for typing. Additionally, candidates should be able to lift light objects, such as files, bend or stoop to access lower drawers, and have good near vision for computer work.

- Working primarily in an office environment. Hybrid schedule of 4 days in office.
